YACAN in 2022 successfully join grantees around the world to implements the Out of the Shadows project, with the aim of promoting advocacy for government to make the right decision to end all forms of violence, sexual exploitation and abuse on children.
This partnership has help YACAN to strengthen it relationship with the Ministry of Gender and Children Affairs and also the Ministry of Social Welfare on policy issues. The project is led by YACAN and Supported by New Venture Fund through the Ignite Philanthropy. During the implementation of the project YACAN has help the Ministry of Gender and Children Affairs to provide evidence and call on the Government of Sierra Leone to review it Child Welfare Policy and contribute greatly to influence the process of reviewing the 2007 Child Rights Acts Bill which makes FGM on Children a crime in Sierra Leone and settles the age for Marriage making Child Marriage an offence in country when the bill would have been enacted by parliament.
The partnership has been of mutual respect and benefits on our mandates to both YACAN and OOSI, with successful implementation of the projects.
YACAN has prove to OOSI that young people can better organised and use their energy to end Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse through policy influencing and review.
YACAN strongly believe that both organisations are excited to contribute to the success and are willing to continue their partnership for the good of the children and young people in Sierra Leone and the world at large.
